The Pittsburgh Steelers took on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. The Steelers had a fairy tale story going into the football game. The Seahawks became a trendy pick leading up to the game. Maybe people don’t like fairy tales.

Both football teams looked tense in the early going. Seattle had a good game plan, but when push came to shove, they couldn’t deliver. Darrell Jackson started the game on fire with 5 catches in the first quarter, but had no more after that. Pittsburgh on the other hand got nothing going, and didn’t get a first down at all in the first quarter. Seattle had a touchdown called back on an offensive pass interference. When do they call that in a big game? Seattle did manage a field goal to lead 3-0 after one quarter.

Pittsburgh finally started to move the football when Hines Ward had an end around for 18 yards. However Ben Roethlisberger threw an interception on the next play. The Seahawks were force to punt, and Pittsburgh got going. Big Ben started to throw the football around, and Hines Ward made some plays. The big play came on a 3rd and 28, when Ben Roethlisberger ran out of the pocket, stopped, and threw the football across the field to Hines Ward. The Steelers scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by Roethlisberger. Seattle complained about the call, but to no avail. The Seahawks had a chance to score points at the end of the half, but had poor clock management, and Josh Brown missed a 54 yard field goal. The Steelers went into halftime up 7-3 in a half where they were outplayed.

The Rolling Stones were the halftime act this year. When the “Bad Boys of Rock N Roll” are reduced to being a safe entertainment act for the Super Bowl, maybe it’s time to pack it in. It was a long halftime show, but it could have been worse.

Pittsburgh stormed out of the gates in the second half, when Willie Parker had a Super Bowl record 75 yard touchdown run. Seattle needed to answer back, and once again put together a nice drive, but came up short when Josh Brown missed another long field goal. The Steelers had a chance to put the football game out of reach after driving all the way down to the Seattle 7 yard line, however Ben Roethlisberger threw a very poor throw, and was intercepted by Kelly Herndon, who ran it back for a Super Bowl record 76 yards. Seattle gleefully scored a touchdown when Matt Hasselbeck found Jerramy Stevens. Stevens had been dropping the football in the first half, and would continue to do so.

The Steelers were reeling early in the 4th quarter when Seattle was deep in Pittsburgh territory when Hasselbeck hit Stevens on the 1 yard line, but a penalty wiped out the play. Three plays later, Hasselbeck threw an interception. This was the turning point in the football game. The Steelers used a trick play, when Antwaan Randle El threw a perfect pass to Hines Ward for a 43 yard touchdown. Seattle was in comeback mood, but a big sack on a 3rd down forced a punt with 6 minutes to go. The Steelers were able to run 4 minutes off the clock. Seattle was in dire straits, and tried a comeback, but once again poor clock management put and end to their dreams. Fittingly Stevens couldn’t hold on to the football on 4th down, and the game was over.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the winners of Super Bowl XL by a score of 21-10. Hines Ward was named the MVP.
