The National League has the weakest division in baseball (N.L. West) the biggest division (N.L. Central) and the N.L. East, or should we call it the Atlanta Braves division at this point, they always win their division. Will they this year?

N.L East
Atlanta Braves
Every spring, the experts say this is the end of the Braves run. The last 5 years, they have looked vulnerable, but always win their division. This team has gotten younger, so they might as well hoist another N.L. East banner.

New York Mets
The Mets have spent a lot of money the last few years, but haven’t seen results. They got Billy Wagner, so that must account for something. If Pedro stays healthy, this team can win the wild card.

Philadelphia Phillies
The last 3 years, the fighting Phillies were suppose to win this division. They came very close to making the wild card last year, but they lost some key players in the offseason. They could win the wild card, this is the best division top to bottom in baseball.

Washington Senators
The feel good story for most of last year, the Senators got ice cold at the end of the season, and missed the playoffs. It was a successful first season in Washington. I still think they don’t have enough parts to make to playoffs.

Florida Marlins
Much like they did after they won their first World Series, the Marlins are now tearing down a championship team. The Marlins got rid of good ball players left and right. Does this team want out of Miami? Where will they go?

N.L Central
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cards are still the best team in the National League, on paper. Scott Rolen will be back in action, so they should cruise to another division title. In the playoffs however……

Milwaukee Brewers
In 2005, the Brewers had their best season in 13 years, finishing .500. Ben Sheets wasn’t even healthy, and he is their ace. This team has made a lot of strides, but are stuck in the Cardinals division. If they were in the West, they’d win it, but I think Milwaukee is still a year or two away from making the playoffs.

Houston Astros
Jeff Bagwell might be finished, and with Roger Clemens, who knows what is going on. If Clemens plays, the Astros will finish ahead of the Brewers, and fight for the wild card, if not, the Astros still are a good enough to make a run. Clemens and Brett Favre, why can’t these guys ever answer the retirement question?

Cincinnati Reds
The Reds still have poor pitching, but they have enough sluggers to win some games.

Chicago Cubs
Mark Prior and Kerry Wood are hurt again, big surprise. If either guy could stay healthy, the Cubs would be in the thick of the Wild Card race. But, at this point, that might not happen again for a while.

Pittsburgh Pirates
Just like the Royals, the Pirates are another team I feel bad for. Can anyone save the Pirates, and give them a few bucks?

N.L West
Los Angeles Dodgers
A healthy Eric Gagne should be enough to rise to the top in the weak N.L West.

San Francisco Giants
Barry Bonds is back, but will he be able to handle all the media attention, while he chases Hank Aaron? That remains to be seen, however the Giants are still good enough to make a run at the division crown, I just don’t think they will win it.

San Diego Padres
They won the division last year, but the Giants and Dodgers weren’t healthy. Let’s see if they can hang with the big boys.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Anything can happen in the N.L West. Maybe they can make the playoffs, but they probably won’t.

Colorado Rockies
Can they win the division? Yeah, right.

Baseball season is right around the corner, and it’s time to make some predictions. The smaller market teams have made a push this offseason, to save baseball from the Yankees-Red Sox non stop headlines. Will it work? Probably not.

A.L East
New York Yankees
The Yankees have solved one of their weaknesses by getting Johnny Damon. This team is stacked like every year, but who knows if that will translate into playoff success.

Boston Red Sox
Last year was somewhat of a disappointment for the Red Sox, and injuries were a big reason why. An early exit in the postseason happened last year, but this time around, the Red Sox have added Josh Beckett, and if Curt Shilling is healthy, this team will have a shot at another World Series.

Toronto Blue Jays
If Roy Halladay is healthy all season, this team can make a run at the postseason. Sadly, the Blue Jays are stuck in a division of giants, so they need a collapse from the Red Sox or Yankees. It could happen.

Baltimore Orioles
What a mess 2005 was for the O’s. After starting the season well, the bottom fell out, and fast. Now the team can move on, and get back to playing Oriole baseball, that is 4th place baseball.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays
I’m tired of this team. They have never made a run at the playoffs, and need to go to a different division to ever have a shot. Remember when Major League Baseball wanted to get rid of teams? Why did they keep the Devil Rays? Give the city of Tampa a better ball club

A.L Central
Minnesota Twins
Torii Hunter got hurt at the wrong time last year, and the Twins missed the playoffs. They still have Johan Santana, who for my money, is the best pitcher in the American League, and if you have pitching, you have a chance.

Chicago White Sox
The champs are looking to defend their crown. This team actually got better in the offseason, and the only major loss was Frank Thomas. If you listen to the G.M. though, that’s a good thing. Its hard to repeat, I can see a letdown from the White Sox.

Cleveland Indians
The Indians caught fire late last year, and almost made the playoffs. If they had, they could have won the World Series. The Indians could win the division this year, but for now, I’m staying with the Twins.

Detroit Tigers
Same old story, the Tigers make some moves, but miss the posteason. I think the team will be a lot better this year, and might make a small run at the playoffs, but look at the teams above them, it’s not easy to make the playoffs in baseball.

Kansas City Royals
I feel bad for the Royals. Things can’t be as bad as last year. Still, they will probably be in the Central cellar.

A.L West
Oakland A’s
The A’s are always good in the second half of the season. They got cold late in the season last year, but I don’t think that will happen again.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
What a dumb name. Anyway, you never know with the Angels, they aren’t that far from the 2002 World Series champs, but I’m not sold on the Angles of Anaheim.

Seattle Mariners
Felix Hernandez isn’t even 20 years old yet. This team should be good in a few years, but for now, they will have to wait.

Texas Rangers
This team has the bats, but they lack the pitching staff needed to make the playoffs.

We all knew this was going to happen. Bonds steroid use has become public, and what does Barry have to say about it? Nothing, he just yaps about other issues, like always. In Barry Bonds world, its no big deal. He was just taking them to get by. So when he complains about the media, does he understand, that by hitting 73 home runs, with the use of steroids, these questions are bound to be asked? I’m not going to bury Barry, that’s already happening. I’m just upset that this didn’t come out soon, so that way it wouldn’t have the volcano it is now.

Say in 2000, it was proven that major leaguers were using steroids, it would have stung a little, but it would have addressed the problem, and we could have all moved on. But no, instead it’s been MLB’s worst kept secret. When Mark McGuire was “saving baseball” Bud Selig was happy to sweep things under the rug. At this point, I’m not even shocked to hear the words steroids and baseball in the same sentence, doesn’t that say something? What about poor Roger Maris? He breaks the home run record and gets an asterisk. McGuire has fireworks, and drops out of the public eye when his body starts to fail due to steroid use.

I know its a big moral campaign about steroids, and it turns into the Salem Witch Trails all over again. What’s the problem with putting asterisks on the new home run records? These guys obviously did steroids, which is illegal. In the baseball universe 10 years ago, it wasn’t but everywhere else it has been. What would baseball lose if they admit, there were/are serious problems they need to address? Who respects Major League Baseball as it is? No one.

Barry Bonds may or may not have said this is his last season. Who knows with Bonds anymore. I can see, that the media has made his life, in Barry’s head, a living hell. And even if he does break Hank Aaron’s home run record, how many people will take that serious? I think Barry Bonds is the best of the steroid era (yes, he did admit to using the cream during the BALCO trail, but how come that isn’t brought up?) He would be a Hall of Famer for his pre steroid years, but he really needs to get off his soap box. How is the media wrong for accusing him of things, when he did cheat and use the cream? Maybe the steroid question wouldn’t be asked, if Barry Bonds ever said anything in interviews, instead of ranting and raving. Sports fans do forgive somewhat, Jason Giambi gets cheered because he said he was sorry or something to the effect.

If he does break the record, how will people react? Boos? Golf applause? I don’t know, Major League Baseball hopes that any Bonds record gets beat and the soon the better. I feel bad for the real home run legends, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Frank Robinson, and so many more. Hank Aaron got freaking death threats over passing Ruth, if Barry gets the record, he won’t get those, he’ll just have doubters, and its his own fault. Just speak up, that’s all. Don’t be a Mark Mark McGuire.

In a few weeks the World Baseball Classic will take place. While I’m not against the event, I’m not that into it. Isn’t this just an effort to gloss over the talks of steroids anyway? You can tell how well a sport is doing by the “international factor” The NFL sends the Cardinals and 49ers to Mexico for a football game, so they dont give a damn. The NBA always talks about being more global, which means attendance is down. And the NHL, need I say more.

In any event, this could be the last chance to see Roger Clemens, or not. I want to see Barry Bonds dodge some more questions about steroids, the guy just doesn’t get it. Also, you know the USA team will get beat, look at the other countries teams. Say the USA loses, and loses badly, will they end the World Baseball Classic after one year.

At least for a few days I won’t have to hear about the Yankees and the Red Sox.

Jack Morris
Why isn’t this guy in already? He was the best postseason pitcher I ever saw and he had the most wins in the 1980s? Isn’t being the best in your era what it is all about?

Andre Dawson
He was a legitimate power hitter, before players were on the juice.

Lee Smith
I’m not big on relievers getting in the hall of fame, barring Eckersley, but doesn’t Lee Smith have the most saves ever? To me most of the relievers are interchangable so why not put the leader in saves?

Bert Blyleven
With all the attention on closers, why not have a guy in the top 5 in strikeouts, and has 287 wins? I could make a case for Tommy John, but Blyleven should have gotten in this year.

Next year will be impossible for these guys to get in, so they missed their chance because some writers couldn’t make up their minds, and blew the vote this year. In a bad year, why not have a lot of guys get in the Hall of Fame?

Johnny Damon, my look-a-like, is now a New York Yankee. Yeah it’s a nice move by the Yankees, and I know everyone wants him to get a haircut and all. That’s not why I’m writing. It’s been less then a day, and I’m all ready sick of this story. ESPN news is goo-ing in their pants over this thing. Kobe Bryant scored 62 points last night after 3 quarters, and all I see on ESPN news is “Damon to Yankees.”

I want some other sports stories instead of the Yankees signing yet another big name, and not solving their main baseball issues. And all you Boston fans are probably going to cry your eyes out that Jesus in baseball cleats in no longer part of the Sox.

I hate the baseball hot stove. Lots of talk over nothing. The World Series isn’t won in December. This is the most annoying baseball story since the whole A-Rod to Boston bullshit a few years ago. Nothing will ever be that bad again.
