Well, its the last week of the regular season and a lot of games have playoff implications. Even games between football teams out of the race have meaning. With the NFC Playoff Picture muddled as it is, the Giants and Packers might need help from unlikely sources. But onto that later. Last week was not a strong showing for me. I’ve been as ice cold as the Giants of late. Not good.
Last Week: 8-8
Season: 139-101
New York Giants vs Washington Redskins
A Giant win would probably put them in the playoffs. This is where the strength of victory tiebreaker comes into play. With a Giants win the Packers would need the teams they beat this football season to win and the teams the Giants beat to lose. The Giants have been so bad the last two months, I can’t see them limping to the playoffs anyway.
Winner: Washington Redskins
Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texans
With the Strength of Victory tiebreaker in effect, this football game could have a lot more meaning then it should. The Texans beat the Colts for the first time last week and want to end the season on a high note. David Carr’s days are numbered though.
Winner: Houston Texans
Detroit Lions vs Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys aren’t going into the playoffs the way they want. The Eagles had their way with them on Christmas. The Cowboys need a win for a chance at the NFC East title. They let the division crown slip through their hands, but they aren’t going to lose to the Lions.
Winner: Detroit Lions
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs
Both of these teams need help if they want to make the playoffs. The Jags poor road record is going to cost them. One win outside the state of Florida isn’t good enough to make the playoffs. The Chiefs still are a factor in the AFC because they can knock Denver out if it came down to a tiebreaker. I’ll go with the home team in this one.
Winner: Kansas City Chiefs
Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints
The Saints have a first round bye and probably will rest their starters a lot in this football game. The Panthers have been the biggest disappointment in the NFL. What happened to this team? They can’t run and they can’t convert 3rd downs. And the defense has not lived up to all the preseason hype. Still they are alive in the NFC and should be able to beat the Saints backups.
Winner: Carolina Panthers
Seattle Seahawks vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs have been playing a lot better since they put Tim Rattay in. The Seahawks haven’t looked good in December. I think it would be fitting that they finish 8-8. They would be only the second ever 8-8 division winner.
Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
St Louis Rams vs Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings defense might keep them in this football game, but they don’t have enough firepower on offense to win. They are playing for next year while the Rams are alive in the NFC. The Rams need a lot of help but they should be able to win.
Winner: St Louis Rams
New England Patriots vs Tennessee Titans
The Titans began the football season 0-5, but have been red hot and are looking for their 7th win in a row. They need a lot of help if they want to make the playoffs, but things are looking good for them in 2007. The Pats have their division wrapped up so they probably aren’t going to risk injury in this one. I hope the Titans can make the playoffs, they deserve to.
Winner: Tennessee Titans
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals
Last week was a heartbreaking loss for the Bengals. Losing on a botched PAT snap is sad. That could be the reason they don’t make the playoffs. I think they will be able to win at home and make things interesting.
Winner: Cincinnati Bengals
Oakland Raiders vs New York Jets
The Jets need a win and they’re in. The Raiders aren’t going to put up much of fight in this one. The Jets sure have had an easy road to the playoff. If they lose this one, they don’t deserve to make it to the playoffs.
Winner: New York Jets
Miami Dolphins vs Indianapolis Colts
The Colts aren’t going into the playoffs the way they want to. They can’t stop the run and lost to the Texans last week. Not good. The Dolphins are going to start Cleo Lemon. The Colts need a win and a Ravens loss if they want a first round bye.
Winner: Indianapolis Colts
Buffalo Bills vs Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens need a win and a Chargers loss if they want to get home field advantage. The Ravens are playoff well going into the playoff and could be very dangerous. The Bills have had a nice season but J.P. Losman could be in for a world of hurt.
Winner: Baltimore Ravens
Arizona Cardinals vs San Diego Chargers
The Chargers get home field with a win over the Cardinals. They should win this one, easily.
Winner: San Diego Chargers
Atlanta Falcons vs Philadelphia Eagles
The Falcons are a mess right now. Jim Mora is on the hot sear, Michael Vick is getting blamed for everything. The Eagles are on a roll and with a win, they win the NFC East. The Falcons have a lot of thinking to do this offseason.
Winner: Philadelphia Eagles
San Francisco 49ers vs Denver Broncos
The 49ers have been a nice story this year, but blew their playoff chances last week when they lost to the Cardinals. A lot of teams will have their eye on this football game, but Denver will win and have an easy exit from the playoffs. Blah.
Winner: Denver Broncos
Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears
This could be Brett’s last game if the Packers don’t make the playoffs. If the Giants lose, this football game will have a lot of meaning. The Bears have nothing to play for, unless they want to get eliminate their oldest rival. This will probably be a very tough game for the Packers, but
