A few football teams stood out this year, not just in the win and losses, but also how they impacted the league as a whole.

Philadelphia Eagles
Last year they were in the Super Bowl, this year things fell apart quickly for the Eagles. T.O wanted more money, McNabb had try and steady the ship, while playing injured. Injuries and the whole Owens saga lead to this team’s early demise. The writing was on the wall in week one, when McNabb was hurt, and they lost to the Falcons. As bad as this football season was it could have been worse, the Eagles were very lucky to win a few games. Roy Williams interception on Monday Night Football put the final nail in the coffin.

Indianapolis Colts
For 13 games, this was the team that was going to challenge the Miami Dolphins unbeaten season, but then the Chargers entered town. The loss hurt in a few ways, for one thing, the Colts did play hard in their loss, and thus the blueprint on how to beat the Colts was made. A 3-4 defense will cause “protection problems.” Their loss to the Steelers was even worse, since the road to the Super Bowl was easy for the Colts. One missed kick later, and the Colts have a lot of questions and doubters heading into 2006.

San Diego Chargers/Dallas Cowboys/Washington Redskins
I lumped these football teams together for one reason, they provided the most highs and lows of the football season. All three teams had playoff hopes, but only the Redskins made it, the Cowboys and Chargers shot themselves in the foot one to many times. Dallas could have beat Seattle, but pissed the football game away in the final moments. That game led to Seattle becoming a powerhouse. The Redskins made the playoffs, but could not beat the Seahawks in a game that the Redskins very easily could have won.
The Week 2 Monday Night Football game between the Redskins and the Cowboys was the main reason why the Redskins made the playoffs and the Cowboys didn’t. San Diego on the other hand watched their Super Bowl dreams end due to way too many bad losses. Losing to the Cowboys in week one was bad enough, but their loss to the Eagles was awful. They had the game in hand, and watched a blocked field goal, turn into a nightmare. Their loss to the Steelers enabled the Steelers to get into the playoffs. I think the loss to Miami paints the picture of the San Diego season, they lost games they should have won. They were on par with the Colts and Pats, hell they beat both football teams, but now have many questions heading into 2006.

Miami Dolphins
I was shocked to see this team finish 9-7. Going into the football season, many questioned Nick Saban’s decision of having Ricky Williams on his team, but it gave the Dolphins a nice one-two punch. Chris Chambers finally lived up to all the hype, and became a force. I like Saban a lot as a head coach, and if Miami gets a fresh face at quarterback, they might be able to go real far.

Detroit Lions/ Arizona Cardinals
These two football teams were major letdown. Both favorites to make the playoffs, neither lived up to the hype, and watch their seasons go by the boards early. The Cardinals brought in Kurt Warner, who for all the stats he can put up, is not a team leader. Why not start Josh McCown? He has leadership tools. Detroit is in the same boat with Joey Harrington. Why is he the starter? What has he done in his career? When did Matt Millen start censoring what the fans can say about his team? When fans what your ass fired, its time to pack your bags. Good luck at Fox, you know he will come crawling back.
